An open appeal from Help Community Education Center (Myanmar Refugee).

"As we approach the close of another year, we would like to thank One Month One Charity for all the great things you have done for our school this year. It is with good people like you guys who keep us going over the last 6 years+. Yes, it has been a touch journey but things were lightened with the helping hands you guys have extended to us that have encouraged us to move ahead. Thank u very much.

2016 is going to be even tougher, not only for charitable organisations like ours but sectors too, even the donors may be affected. Despite whatever difficult times, the show must go on. For the 1st time, we have proposed an annual budget that overshoot RM100,000. The textbook replacement project was delayed due to lack to fund in 2015 but with most books torn now, we have no choice but to replace them with Singapore syllabus text books. As you may know, Malaysian publishers do not print Maths and Science in the English language anymore for over 3 years. Singapore textbooks are so expensive due to the currency exchange rate but still cheaper than British or US imported books. A set of samples will reach our school this afternoon when an international visiting school will bring them from Singapore.

We also need a All-in-one multi function printer to print our test and exam papers. After we did a calculation, we found out we can scan and print a A4 size for under 3 sen (including toner and paper) instead of 5 sen outside. We have identified the Canon Image CLASS MP3010 that use the canon cartridge toner 325 that cost RM65 for 2 cartridges (compatible) printing 1,600 copies per cartridge. The printer cost RM499 on Lazada. We are very particular about future printing cost so it took us some time to decide on this model. We are hoping to raise fund for this.

We have attached our Sponsor a refugee child's Education 2016 campaign card. In case, u hv any friends who may be interested to contribute, pls email to them. Although it costs about RM900 per year to provide a decent education to a children, why we we choose to use RM120 per child per year? We believe that at RM120 or just RM10 per month, anybody can participate in this campaign, even wage earners or students. Those more affordable can also sponsor 5, 10 or 20 students.

HELP Community Center - Request for Biscuits

We received a SOS call from Chris - the caretaker of Help Community Center seeking urgent supplies of biscuit to the center. The biscuits are for about 120 refugee kids (mainly from Mynmar) during tea break. One carton biscuit can last about 4 days in the center.

Without further delay, we ordered the 5 cartons of biscuits and delivered to Chris.

The next day, another sponsor (Ms Siew Yin Yoon) came in and  sent us 3 more cartons of biscuits to be delivered to Chris.

Kid's Movie Day @ HELP Community Center, Kepong - May 2015

It has been awhile since we last visited the school. The last visit was in May 2014 in providing exercise books, food and 2 TV. For this visit, Gary had requested what are the items required at the school which was marker pens and refills, and also 4 broken toilet doors. The students has increased to 140 which includes Pakistanis as well. Most of the children has left Malaysia after their application has been approved and we wish them well in the new country ;)

For this visit, we did an in-house movie for the children. Thanks to the generousity of the sponsors, food, drinks and stationaries were also provided to the children. We had fried noodle, vitagen, nuggets, hot dogs, ice-cream and boxes of biscuits which will serve them well during the lunch break. The school needs a lot of biscuits to feed the children, and its also a way to get the children to come to school instead of loitering around the area.

A Day in HELP Community Learning Center

Segment- Refugee center with 70 kids from Myanmar and Pakistan age from 5-15 years old

Along the years, we have visited HELP once awhile, and we had our first Christmas party there. For this round, its a revisit and see how things are getting along there. Based on our conversation with Chris, the following are the items they need:-

1) Two 42" LCD TV for online conferencing study, any brand.
This TV will be placed into their computer lab, linked into UNHCR online education portal. The TV are to display the online education program as part of the teaching program for the kids here.

2) Consumables Items

a.    Biscuits (various types) @ 35 kgs a month                                                        

b.    Exercise books (various types) 40 books a month                           

c.    White board markers (with refill) Pilot Board Master Blue/Black, refills. 

1M1c KL Chapter decided to hosted a get together luncheon with the kids to cheer them up. Our belated founder Lai Chin Lun's family supposed to join us, but regretfully to hear that they were unable to make it. We ordered fried mee, beehoon, roasted chicken and pork for the kids and the teachers here .... Can consider teacher's day celebration..haha...

Visit to Myanmar Refugee Children's Home, United Learning Center at Jln Imbi

The plan to visit the home was done a month earlier to ensure we have sufficient time for fund raising. The usual requirements of groceries stands with additional tables for the children. Thanks to Jenny for linking up Domino Pizza Malaysia, 40 pizzas were sponsored for the event. We are very grateful for donors and sponsors who have contributed rice cooker, tables, cup cakes, goody bags, doughnuts, stationaries, toys and even a PC! Also volunteers to spent their Sunday here with the kids. On behalf of the home, I thank you all for your generosity.

And the next day, all of us got lost getting there... even myself! I actually missed most of the happenings as I was on the phone most of the time guiding the volunteers to the location. But no worries, all activities at the home were taken care of by my trusted camera man and I am very sure I didnt miss much! :)
