Emergency Aid To Family In Need

Case: Family of Poor (Kepong Baru)

Background
Mr Tan Chong Eng (NRIC 801015-10-xxxx), a furniture worker with income RM2K a month, born in year 1980, married and have 5 children (age 11months, 4yrs, 7 yrs, 8 yrs & 9yrs). Within last 2 years, he was involved in 3 accidents and need medical fee about RM30k for his back bone surgery. Currently, the kids are taken care by the wife as full time housewife.

Their situation was pick up by NanYang SiangPao and this trigger the public attention. Politician has stepped in so try to help. Tan is now register in Jab Kebajikan Masyarakat and the politician is negotiating with University Hospital for the back bone surgery operation fees.

The family stayed in Metro Prima Block B renting a house @ level 14. They are already 3 months behind rental payment of RM450 / month rental. His son,  Tan Wee Siang happens to be my son's classmate and due to absences from school a few days, the headmaster discover the family situation.

The school, SRJK (C) Kepong II has started a fund raising campaign to ease the burden of this very unfortunate family. From the donation notice, Harry (my son) ask me for some donation. Personally i donated RM50 on the spot.

I was told that the kids only have not more than 50 cents per day for their school days. This initiated me that we need to help this family.

Immediately 1month1charity purchased daily grocery such as eggs, biscuit, instant noodles, bihun, flour, sugar, salt, rice, jam, butter, milk powder, sanitary pads. We delivered the items early July after a site visit on end of June.

The item cost RM231.25.

We did a fund raising @RM50 per person from GaryLee's friends list. On top of that, we hosted a Raub Durian Makan sambil ber'Charity 1/7/2012 6-9pm @ Kepong Baru. In total, we managed to raise RM 5,810 - Durian cost RM400).

Special thanks to Sanddie, (Happy Tan & Family, OCM & Family), that contributed in a big way. The durian cost RM 400 was re-donated back to this fund by Mr Happy Tan and OCM.

We wrote a cheque RM5,000 and pass to Mr Tan. Hopefully this ease their burden for the medical bill partially. The balance of RM810 will be posted into 1M1C account for other who need it.

Gotong Royong Cleaning cum Mother's days KFC lunch

Date 3/6/12 @ 11am-2pm
Venue: TongSim Old Folks Home, Jln Lapangan Terbang Lama, Sg Besi, KL.

We received a "charity cold call" from Ms Jackie Teoh who came across to our little blog, she intended to group some friends and especially their teenage children to volunteer at any charity home during coming school holiday which falls from 26 May to 10 June 2012.

"I have difficulty scrutinizing the 'right' charity home...." this is very common issue anyone who wanted to help the needed but dont know how to kick start and choose the right home to help.

Jackie & gengs came out with an idea of "House Keeping" for old folks home at the same time to bring some grocery items to any home needed.Without much searching, TongSim is the right place to do so.

Our 1M1C group sponsored the KFC meal for the mama papa in the house in conjunction to the Mother and Father's day month. Overall, we spent RM662.72 for KFC cater for 55pax old folks and RM50 carbonate water such as Coke, 100 Plus, Orange etc.

We arrived about 1115am and we have a group of 5-7 friends out of some where, Jackie & gengs about 15+-, Julia Chong and friends. We started to distriute the KFC to all tenants follow by drinks. The caretaker told us not to load too much carbonate drink (Nanti berak banyak-banyak, kasi kerja susah o).

You may wonder can these old people eat KFC? Uncle Cheong the founder of the TongSim said :" These people already old, let them enjoy what the want to eat, dont restrict them on food".

Latter, we start to swept the floor and follow by mopping the place. The equipment (mops and brooms) are not in very the good conditions, IF YOU HAPPEN to visit, PLEASE SPONSOR some la..
If you wanted to help this home to do clean up, advice from volunteers there is be there before 10am before the daily cleaning job is perform.

We had a group photo with some of the tenants, Uncle Cheong (Founder), caretakers, Jackie & Geng, Shirene Liew (*Birthday girl back from Singapore), Julia Chong & friends.

Special Note
Another chapter of 1M1C hosting a Gotong Royong Cleaning cum mother's days KFC lunch for the home needed. Our methods is always visit and donate, but this is the first Gotong Royong from 1M1C.

To our Belated Mr Lai Chin Lun (the late founder of 1Month1Charity), we wish you HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY in June, hopefully you enjoy KFC somewhere is heaven too.

In memory of Lai, 1Month1Charity will continue your vision.
