Feeding the Poor - May 2013

For May 2013 sponsorship, the 10 families' groceries are sponsored by Jeff Lim. We were scheduled to delivered on Saturday, 25th May 2013, but due to Tony's schedule, it was moved to Sunday, the 26th May 2013, 2pm. I have volunteers Carol, Amy, Edwina, Melvin, Lawrence and Tibol to help out. As usual, we proceed to Tony's house to load the groceries.

The area of delivery covers Taman Sentosa, which we revisit the families that we went last month. The first family was the mechanic that has stroke, where only the wife is working now.

The second family is a single mother, working as a security guard and the husband was an accident victim who is unable to work.

The third family is a new family, which we have came for the third time. As we asked for more details, she told us she is only 35 years old with 3 children and advise us that being single is better. I guess I understand where here statements come from. Sadly, somethings in life can not be undo and we just got to live with it and make the best out of it.

We also came to the fourth home last month. The background is husband passed away due to cancer and has 3 kids. Reach Out Klang did cater nasi lemak from her before and if you want to help her out, you can buy from her as well.

The next family is the DJ that had an accident, who will only be going for operation in June. We also visited this family last month.

This family has 5 children, where 2 of them are staying in an orphange due to financial difficulties. The father is only a lorry attendant while the mom is a housewife. The home needs children diapers (XL size). If you have any to spare or donate, please let us know.

The next family stays in the low cost house, which we also visited last month. The husband died in jail and the mother is one eye blind. We almost forgotten about the goodies for the children and luckily, manage to distribute it to the kids. We noticed that even they are not financially well to do, the children are very well-mannered when they received the sweets and chocolate wafers.

The next family is also a single mother family, where the daughter now is learning to be a physiotherapist.

The last family that we delivered had a special child. As there were a lot of neighbours' children, we gave out all the sweets to them and you can see their happy faces when they receiving it. Their smiles makes our hardwork in the hot afternoon worthwhile as its priceless. Its not everyday they get stuff like this.

We delivered to total of 9 homes only and the balance of 1 will be delivered to another home by Tony himself. I would like to extend my appreciation for the team for helping out and hope for more participation in our future rounds.


If you want to volunteer in our next project, you can bring sweets/goodies for the children as it would be much welcome. Also bring a writing pad and camera to record keep the family background details.

Kajang Caring Home - Revisiting 19/5/13

Total Old folks in the home: 30 pax

We visit the home after such a long time. As usual, we called up and ask the items required and the status of the home, based on the earlier information that they have been given notice by the Kajang Town council to move out.

For this visit, there is about 20 of us from various group that contributed food and groceries. As it was tea break time, Ong and Wendy had bought 30 paus to be serve to the tenants. We had a briefing by the caretaker, Wendy Yap on the situation of the home and some of us spent time talking to the old people. Wendy was telling us on the children's good results who has single parent, and has done very well in the studies due to the encouragement from the environment. She is also upset with the eviction notice by the local town council, which has been dragging on for a long time. We took a copy of the support letter that was sent to local town council, and will write to the new local MP for further action and hopefully, they do not need to move out.

As there were additional papayas donated to the home, we do a "bargain garage sale", 2 papayas for RM10, which was quickly sold out! :)

Kajang Caring Home - Eviction Notice

TO BE CLOSED / MOVED OUT BY 31 MAY 2013

The care taker received an official letter from Majlis Perbandaran Kajang last May and was instructed to closed the current permises and to move to another suitable location.

The issue was raised by a neighbour that the old folks home are too noisy. According to the care taker, Wendy Yap, various efforts via different channel to appeal to the eviction notice has been sent to local MPs, from MCA, PKR, UMNO, DUN and MP....were fruitless and the result remained - TO MOVE OUT by 31/5/13.

The home managed to obtain more than 10 neighbours that support the home to stay at the current permise and continue to take care the 30 old folks in the home, but still unable to prevent the eviction notice. What happen to majority rules?

We wonder, who can help them now?

Feeding the Poor - April 2013

The groceries for this month's feeding was sponsored by The Lot Associate, Original Decor Premium Sdn Bhd and Ideao Studio. As usual, purchased are done earlier to allow time to pack the groceries. We arrived early and started the day with breakfast. For this session, I was joined by volunteers Ben, Wendy, Chole, Catherine, Soo Beng, Yong and Melvin. We have quick briefing on what the feeding does and proceed to Tony's home to load the groceries.

Our first home was an ex-mechanic which suffer stroke and only wife is working. Hence, the groceries provided does enlighten their burden. With the operation on his head due to stroke, the part of the skull is removed to reduce the blood pressure. You will notice a slump on his head.

We actually got lost before we found out its 2 lanes away...The second family we visited was a single mother with 3 kids. This family is just receiving the food for the second month.

For the next home, its another single mother with 4 kids whose husband passed away 3 1/2 years ago due to cancer.

This guy is being taken care by the brother, as he was a victim of a hit and run accident 6 years ago. His skull cap on the right side of his head has been removed and currently waiting for operation. Tony and friends raised RM6000 for the operation.

No worries but happiness...

The next family we visited is another low income family, with the husband working as a lorry driver. They have 5 kids and with 2 childrens are staying in the church. As we climb up the stairs, we noticed 3 bags of rice and was told that it was given to them as its been too long and has bugs. And she was saying will use it to feed the bird.. ;( We advised her how to leave the rice under the hot sun and clean it before consumption.

The next home was located at a low cost area, and as you can see from the photos, there is no furniture inside. We left the groceries outside home due to the wet floor. The mother is one eye blind due to abused by her mother years back. She has 3 schooling children.

This family has a 17 years old disabled son. The daughter (standing behind) just graduated as a phsyiotheraphy and currently looking for a job to help the family. We came here last month as well.

This home is a single mother with 2 children, one in college while the other in school, and the mother is down with heart problem. As she was not around, we left the groceries in the house and inform the trusted neighbours.

The last family that we visited was an 76 years old grandmother, taking care of 3 grandchildren. The daughter is working at nearby shop for RM20 per day, while grandma takes care of the other 2 grandchildren (aged 10 and 8). The youngest child's parents already passed away, hence you can feel the sadness of the old lady thinking about the children's future when she is not around anymore. The elder kid's mother does not earn much and doesnt give any money to the other lady. As she relates her story to us, its just sad to listen to her story. As we leave the home, she came out and ask for money, which we politely tell her that we cant do that.

We delivered to a total of 9 homes today. I would like to thank all the volunteers for coming in today and have a grasp of our activities. As much as we would like sponsorship for the feeding, we would prefer the sponsors join in our activities as well and see how the real life situation on the ground. We also like encourage more volunteers to join us in our future events.
