Kids' Movie Day

With school holidays around the corner, the thought of bringing a home to see movies seems to be a good idea. After deciding which home to bring for movies, we start planning on the logistics. I was joined by joined by Yuva, Aishi, Jeff and Chewman. We had breakfast before proceeding to the home and our arrival was expected. First activity we did was to distribute the tags which the children were excited. Took almost 30 minutes to get the whole 26 of them!

Distributing the name tags

Cant wait to go out!

Camera shy is not the word here for sure!

Getting ready

Thanks Yuva for this!

The final output!

Tell me which kids wont get excited with Angry Mickeys? :)

Ready to go!

Not photo-shy at all

After to the movies, we also bring the children to McD for lunch. The children's Happy Meal comes with toys....and guess what, The Croods toys! :) One funny thing was, we went into the cinemas, watch the movie and come out..... without taking any photos! Probably because we dont want to take photo the Croods way! (You have to watch the movie to understand what I am trying to say here)

This image will have to do.....

The kids were immerse into setting up the toys after the meal. We spent the time playing with the kids and also spoke to Mr Muthu and understand the home's situation. The home requires what every other homes requires which is the basic groceries.

Not an easy task for us either!

Heading home after makan...
We left McD about 330pm to head back to the home. Jeff dropped the children off at the home and proceed in getting the cake, while we spend time with the kids. I didnt know that we also have magicians among us.. ;)

Never camera shy at all.

Concentrating on the toy

Popular magician at work... a lot of encores!!!
The grand finale event was getting a birthday cake for the March birthday kids.We had 3 March birthday boys and girls for the celebration, and the appreciation goes to Jeff for getting a 3kg pandan cake for them.

Arrival of the cakeman...

I cant keep my eyes of you...

You can see his happy face and smile!

Attached to the volunteer....

Feeding the Poor - Feb 2013

As per planned earlier, this month is our second month in Feeding the Poor Program. The fund for this month is based on the initial collection of RM3200, which RM1044 was utilised for February 2013.

The groceries were purchased earlier in order to be pack and ready to be delivered. The items delivered are the standard groceries - 10kg pack of rice, cooking oil, choco powder, mee hoon, a tray of eggs, maggie mee, canned beans and biscuits. I had the great companion of Melvin, Steele and Florence to accompany on the goceries delivery run around. On top of the delivery, we also have Florence distributing angpow to the homes as well. You should see the recipients faces and especially the kids as this was something that was unexpected. Its great to see smiling and happy faces even their circumstances are not the best.

We delivered the groceries on the morning of 23rd January 2013. We loaded the van (Thanks Melvin!) with all the groceries and proceed to our first recipient.

There are about 7 workers from India taking care of all the smaller children, while the elders were mostly on their own wandering around the home or watching TV.  Some of the children quickly came to me and shake hand with me. They also love to take photos too. Simple things but it means a lot to them. The children there are friendly and would love your interactions and attention, hence if you are making a visit there, its best to spend time with the children. You can get more information from this site. The home also received 2 pack of rice donated from Reach Out. Total spent is RM301.

If you are interested to visit the home, address is - No.4, Lorong Bunga Raya, Kampong Raja Uda, 42000 Port Klang, Selangor. (Dont use Google Map as its wrongly tagged. Search for Fire Dept along the main road to Port Klang). Tel: 03-3165 4312, 3165 4475

Feeding the Poor - Jan 2013

I was introduced to Tony, a fellow NGO who does feeding for the poor for the last 7 years. After initial discussion, we agreed to sponsor 5 families for 3 months as a start. Fund raising was done via Facebook, and was quickly done within 1 month. Thanks to all the donors who responded quickly we collected twice the amount targetted!  With the final donation collected of RM3200, we are able to sponsor 10 families per month for 3 months. So, on behalf of the recipients, I would like to thank to all sponsors for contributing to the fund for this activity.

We purchased the groceries for 10 families a day earlier, as the things need to be pack to ease the distribution the next day. On the rainy Saturday, I was joined by Jen C and kids, which provide much needed help in the hard labour.

We covered  areas around Teluk Pulai, Kampung Delek and Kampung Jawa. The locations of the home a bit distributed, hence took some time to complete the whole 10 families.

Biscuits and choco powder

All items packed and ready to be distributed.. Volunteers needed for the next round!

The first family we covered is a Cambodian Muslim family. The elder daughter, married with a kid was left by the husband. Tony had been sponsoring the home for 7 years when the the daughter was  much younger.

The home is located "somewhere" in Kg Delek...

2012 Report

A late entry for last year report, but here it goes...

The year 2012 had been a challenging year for the team due to heavy work and personal commitments. However, we still manage to consistently do 1 projects every month. We only collected 62% of the donation last year, but we still manage to cover 16 projects. Some projects are sponsoring other NGOs while some are our own projects.

Financial Details for 2012
Total Collected         - RM 6912.41
Total Spent               - RM 4656.25
Balance CF to 2013 - RM 1927.16
Cash on Hand          - RM 2666.36 (additional cash RM739.20 due to vouchers donated and anonymous donors)

The number of homes visited last year were smaller and repeated visit to some of the homes to ensure their basic needs are met. We also had a CNY Feeding for the poor family from SRJK (C) Hin Hua Klang, fully sponsored by corporate sponsors under the guidance of Project MADE, which we are truly grateful for the experience.

Ali Cafe Tiga Rasa had also sponsored the kids from St Barnabas Klang to have a free meal at their USJ restaurant, which was much appreciated by the kids. We also sponsored the Student Club from UKM for their "Project Kampung Angkat 2012" activity.

There were also emergency request for money and food, which we did a durian fund raising for a needy family which need financial support for back operation. We received a request from a home that need food urgently, which we responded. At the end of the year, there is our Back To School and Christmas party for the home.

Again, thank you to all sponsors whom had benefited the needies and we hope to have another fruitful year in 2013 and help more homes. It is also good to know that there are many that will notify me privately whenever a request for sponsors comes in. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated as I know things will turn out succesfully. I also like to thank the following people below for their support and sponsorship to keep this organisation going as without your tremendous support, we would not have lasted 3 years! :) The list of sponsors goes to the list below :-
